PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers announced Monday that the team has surpassed 12,000 season tickets sold for its inaugural Major League Soccer season in 2011.

As a result of demand, the team said it had opened up an additional 500 seats for season ticket sales and has established a hard cap of 12,500 for the team’s first MLS season. A waiting list would be started once the 12,500 figure is met.

Half-season plans were also nearing sold-out status, according to the team. Additionally, all 23 Sunset Porsche Audi Suites have been sold on a multi-year basis.

Remaining season tickets for the Timbers’ inaugural MLS season start at $18 per game.

The Timbers make their 2011 home debut Thursday, April 14, as they play host to the Chicago Fire.
