BEAVERTON, Ore. - Former Beaverton High and University of Oregon star Ben Crane has done it. He has qualified for golf's U.S. Open.

At a sectional qualifier in Columbus, Ohio, Crane shot a 69 and a 66 to earn one of 23 spots available to the 140-player field.

The field was stocked with PGA Tour players and major champions.

Also in Columbus, former Gresham resident Robert Garrigus shot 63 in the morning round and 72 in the afternoon to join Crane in the four-way tie for 3rd.

Next week's U.S. Open will be Crane's first major tournament since the 2007 Masters.
