SEATTLE – A metal brace is acting as a band aid for the only tree at Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place after someone took an axe to it last week.
Pierce County Public Works is trying to save the iconic Douglas Fir. In addition to the brace, excess soil has been removed from around the tree to help uncover the roots so that more compost can be added. The compost will help ensure consistent moisture and nutrients.

Besides that, the tree is being allowed to heal on its own, which includes allowing tree sap to naturally cover the area from where the vandal took a large chunk. In about three weeks, an epoxy resin will be put in the wound area and between the braces.
