Fellow rookie Brandon Roy helped the Trail Blazers end a four-game losing streak, finishing with 19 points, 12 rebounds and three key baskets in the final three minutes.
The Blazers erased a nine-point halftime lead and won without leading scorer and rebounder Zach Randolph, who was granted bereavement leave Monday.
Antawn Jamison led the Wizards with 27 points and 12 rebounds. Gilbert Arenas added 19 points and ten assists but shot just 4-for-16.
The loss cuts the Wizards' Southeast Division lead to a-half game over Miami.
