Mariners win one, lose one in split squad games

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Seattle Mariners split a split-squad doubleheader today in Arizona, beating the Arizona Diamondbacks 8 to 5 in Peoria and losing to the Chicago Cubs 16 to 4 in Mesa.

The twinbill split left the Mariners with a 7 and 14 Cactus League record.
In Peoria, veteran left-hander Jarrod Washburn pitched 4 2-3 innings, giving up one run on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts to get the victory.
The Mariners had 15 hits in their Peoria game, with Richie Sexson collecting two hits and driving in two runs.
In Mesa, 21-year-old left-hander Ryan Feierabend started for the Mariners, but he gave up eight runs on nine hits and one walk, with one strikeout and one walk in two innings. Mike Morse and Rene Rivera each had two hits for Seattle.
