SEATTLE -- It's a big day for soccer fans as the Seattle Sounders FC take on the L.A. Galaxy in their season opener Tuesday night.

The team is hoping that energy and excitement will rally their fans to donate money to victims of Japan's earthquake and tsunami. The Sounders FC are teaming up with the American Red Cross. Volunteers will be standing at various different gates around Qwest Field collecting donations.

The team expects a packed crowd and they've posted the fundraiser on the Sounders website. The team said the money will support disaster relief efforts and will help those who've been affected by the earthquake and tsunami throughout the Pacific.

If you can't make the game, the Sounders FC are asking fans to donate on line at Red Cross's website which is www.redcross.org. Or fans can text Red Cross at 9-0-9-9-9 to make a $10 donation.

Tuesday's season opener will be a nationally televised game which starts at 6:30 p.m.
