PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Frederic Piquionne, Will Johnson and Ryan Johnson scored and the Portland Timbers ran their unbeaten streak to 15 games with a 3-0 victory Sunday over Colorado.
The Timbers are tied with Real Salt Lake for best record in MLS with 30 points, the first time in the team's three-year history it has sat atop the league. Portland (7-1-9), also leads the league in goals with 28.
Colorado (5-7-5) has lost three straight and has just one win in its last six matches.
The Timbers have shutouts in their last three games and five of seven. The last goals Portland allowed at Jeld-Wen Field in MLS play were in a 2-1 loss to Montreal on March 9.
Union 3, Red Bulls 0
CHESTER, Pa. (AP) — Conor Casey scored twice, lifting the Union. Casey had a goal disallowed in the fourth minute because he was offside. But he responded with a goal three minutes later, and one in 64th minute.
Antoine Hoppenot also scored for the Union in the 88th minute.
The Union (7-5-4) pulled even with New York (7-6-4) for third place in the Eastern Conference standings. Philadelphia also snapped a five-match losing streak to the Red Bulls.
After Casey's first goal, the Union controlled the tempo the rest of the way. In the 28th minute, New York's Lloyd Sam was given a red card following a hard foul on Philadelphia's Danny Cruz. New York was never able to generate much offense down a player.
Galaxy 1, Chivas USA 0
CARSON, Calif. (AP) — Rookie Gyasi Zardes scored just before halftime, and the Galaxy snapped a three-game winless streak over "SuperClasico" archrival Chivas USA.
Zardes nodded home Landon Donovan's free kick as the Galaxy (7-6-3) climbed to fourth place in the Western Conference, seven points off the lead. Chivas (3-10-2), the home team at the StubHub Center, tied a club record with its seventh successive loss and its seventh shutout defeat in a 10-game skid dating to the end of March.
Robbie Rogers appeared to score for the Galaxy, slipping a pass from Donovan past keeper Dan Kennedy, but referee Hilario Grajeda ruled Robbie Keane interfered with the play. Keane, in an offside position between Rogers and the goal, screened Kennedy.
Zardes nearly connected two minutes later, but Kennedy dived to knock the shot off the right post. Zardes he hit the net in the 44th minute, his glancing header from Donovan's delivery caroming in off the left post.
