SEATTLE -- A draft of the environmental impact study for a proposed NBA arena in Seattle was released Thursday.
There will now be a 45-day review period during which the public can comment on the study, including at two public meetings. The comment period will end Sept. 30.
Public hearings are scheduled for Sept. 10 in the Bertha Knight Landes Room at Seattle City Hall and Sept. 19 in the Fidalgo Room at Seattle Center. Both will start at 6 p.m.
The study reviewed five options: the proposed arena plan; no action at the proposed site; a smaller arena on the proposed site; a 20,000-seat arena where KeyArena currently sits; and a 20,000-seat arena at Memorial Stadium near KeyArena. There will be further review of impact and mitigation for all options before the final study is released early next year.
Investor Chris Hansen has proposed a $490 million arena with $290 million in private investment in Seattle's SoDo area in the hopes of bringing the NBA back.
