SEATTLE (AP) — Southern California quarterback Matt Barkley says Trojans offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates is headed to Seattle to join the staff of new Seahawks coach Pete Carroll.
Barkley confirmed as the Trojans assembled for a final meeting with Carroll on Monday that his play-caller is leaving for Seattle.
Carroll signed a contract to become the eighth coach in Seattle's 34-year history Monday morning. During a news conference at USC, he deferred questions about the Seahawks until he is introduced at team headquarters Tuesday morning.
Bates got a promotion before the 2009 season, after Steve Sarkisian left to become Washington's coach.
At least two other assistants of Carroll's are expected to be on his Seahawks staff: assistant head coach for the defense Ken Norton and offensive line coach Pat Ruel.
