Local athletes shine at Rio Paralympics

RIO DE JANEIRO – Some local athletes have shined at the Paralympic Games in Rio this month. Here’s an update on how they fared:

Portland hand cyclist Will Groulx won three medals in Rio; a gold in the road race, silver in the time trial and a silver in the team relay.

The U.S. women’s goalball team won the bronze medal on Friday. Portland State staff member Jen Armbruster and PSU student Eliana Mason were on the team. Rio was the seventh Paralympics for Armbruster.

Hillsboro wheelchair tennis player Dave Wagner won the silver medal in the quad doubles.
