TACOMA, Wash. -- Budda Baker and Jack Meggs each scored two touchdowns as Bellevue rushed for 315 yards in a 35-3 victory over Eastside Catholic to claim their fifth straight Class 3A state championship on Friday night.
Bellevue has never lost in a title game and has now won 10 of the last 12 Class 3A championships and 11 titles across all classifications.
Baker put Bellevue on top early with a 71-yard punt return for a touchdown after a pair of penalties stalled Eastside Catholic's opening possession. Baker caught the line drive punt at his own 29-yard line and knifed straight through the Eastside Catholic defense for the score.
Jacob Gai's 33-yard field goal early in the second quarter proved to be the only points of the night for Eastside Catholic in their first trip to the championship game.
Meggs led the way for Bellevue's dominant ground attack rushing for 108 yards and two scores. Meggs also completed 4 of 7 passes for 35 yards. Myles Jack finished with 105 yards on six carries and Baker ran for 93 yards on five carries for Bellevue.
After Eastside Catholic scored, Meggs connected with Scott Whiting for 21 yards on third-and-long and then split the defense for a 28-yard touchdown on the following play to give Bellevue a 14-3 lead at halftime.
Bellevue then blew the game open in the second half. Baker romped for a 61-yard touchdown midway through the third quarter. Eastside Catholic failed to convert on a fourth-and-10 on the following possession giving the ball back to Bellevue near midfield. Bellevue marched on a nine-play drive culminating in a 6-yard touchdown from Meggs to take a 28-3 lead.
Baker intercepted Peter Kimble on a double pass to give the ball back to Bellevue at its own 5-yard line. Jack then blasted through the middle of the line and ran away from the defense for a 95-yard touchdown to put an exclamation point on yet another state championship.
Trey Reynolds completed 13 of 25 passes for 133 yards and also ran for 41 yards on 23 carries for Eastside Catholic.
