TACOMA, Wash. – Playoff baseball may come to Safeco Field next month.
The Tacoma Rainiers, who will be made temporarily homeless due to a scheduled $30 million renovation of Cheney Stadium this offseason, will play the Pacific Coast League Conference Playoffs at the home of the Seattle Mariners.
That, of course, depends on whether the Rainiers qualify. They currently hold a 3.5 game lead over the Salt Lake Bees with 15 games remaining.
Because this is an even-numbered year, the winner of the PCL's Pacific North Division has home field advantage against the Pacific South division in the best-of-five series. The first two games will be played at the South division's champion on Sept. 8-9.
Game three at Safeco Field would be Friday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. If games four and five are necessary, they will be played at noon on Saturday, Sept. 11 and 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 12, respectively.
The winner of that series will go on to face the winner of the American Conference playoff for the PCL Championship. The Rainiers have not said if those games would also be played at Safeco Field.
Two different ticket levels are available. The Walk-Off tickets, located in the first 20 rows of the 100 level of Safeco field, are $25. Home Run tickets are $20 and are located in the remaining rows of the 100 level.
