SEATTLE – The Seattle Mariners have offered up their suggested price range for free agent slugger Prince Fielder, according to a blog by CBSsports.com baseball insider Jon Heyman. But the report indicates it may be an uphill climb for the M’s to sign Fielder.
A post on Heyman’s Twitter feed Tuesday also said “mariners made prince fielder an offer (or at least told him what they'd pay). seattle people love him but said to have $ limits”
Other teams believed to be in the hunt are his incumbent team, the Milwaukee Brewers, the Mariners rival Texas Rangers, along with the Washington Nationals, Baltimore Orioles, Chicago Cubs, Toronto Blue Jays and Miami Marlins.
Heyman reports some people close to Fielder have suggested he wants to stay in the East or Central time zones and that Seattle may not be willing to break the bank to sign Fielder.
The left hand-hitting first baseman hit .299 last season with 38 home runs and 120 RBI for the Brewers.
