HIGHLIGHTS LOG AFTER THE GAME STORY
PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) -- Chone Figgins and Ken Griffey Jr. are finally on the board.
Figgins ended his spring slump with two hits, including a two-run triple during Seattle's four-run fifth inning, and the Mariners tied the Kansas City Royals 6-6 on Friday.
Figgins, who signed a free-agent deal with Seattle over the winter, was 0 for 11 this spring.
"Now I feel like I'm part of the team," he said.
The game ended after nine innings by mutual agreement after the Royals used all their available pitchers.
Griffey also had his first two hits of spring training for Seattle, a one-hop double off the center-field wall in the fourth and a bloop RBI single that drove in Figgins in the fifth. Griffey also had a sacrifice fly in the first.
"Me and Griffey were the last ones (without a hit)," Figgins said. "When he got his, I figured I'd better hurry up and get one, because he'd have been talking if I didn't."
Griffey jokingly celebrated his first hit by having the ball thrown into the dugout.
Matt Tuiasosopo homered for the Mariners.
Jose Guillen, Mike Aviles and Brayan Pena each had two hits for Kansas City. Kila Ka'aihue hit a two-run homer, and Alberto Callaspo also drove in two runs.
Aviles had Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in July and has looked good this spring.
"Mike is doing a great job of staying inside the ball," manager Trey Hillman said. "He's got pretty good plate discipline. He's taking pitches."
Luke Hochevar pitched three innings for Kansas City, allowing a run and two hits. He threw 21 of his 31 pitches for strikes.
Seattle closer David Aardsma, who hadn't pitched since March 4 because of a sore right groin, recorded two outs in the third and was charged with an unearned run.
"I did exactly what I wanted to do. I walked away healthy and I made some good pitches along the way," said Aardsma, who had 38 saves last season.
NOTES: Royals DH Rick Ankiel was scratched with a sore right ankle. Pena replaced him. ... Tuiasosopo's homer was the first for Seattle in five games.
