PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) -- Garrett Olson has given up six runs while getting only two outs and the Seattle Mariners have lost to the San Diego Padres 9-3 Friday.

Fighting for the No. 5 spot in the Mariners rotation, Olson gave up three hits and walked four when he took over in the third inning.

Three of the five pitchers competing for the fifth spot in the Padres' rotation had better success.

Sean Gallagher, who was picked up in a trade with the Oakland A's last summer, pitched two scoreless innings. Mat Latos gave up a run in two innings and Wade LeBlanc allowed two runs -- one earned --in two innings.

Chase Headley, who moved from left field to third base when the Padres traded Kevin Kouzmanoff to Oakland in January, had a two-run single in four at-bats.
