SEATTLE – The Seattle Mariners released details Thursday about a public celebration planned to remember late broadcaster Dave Niehaus.
The Dec. 11 "Celebration of Life for Dave Niehaus" at Safeco Field will begin at 1:10 p.m. and last approximately one hour.
Scheduled to appear are former Mariners Jay Buhner and Dan Wilson, Mariners broadcasters Rick Rizzs and Ron Fairly and Mariners Chairman and CEO Chuck Armstrong. Andy Niehaus and Greta Niehaus Dunn, Dave's son and daughter, are also scheduled to speak. There will also be recorded greetings from around the world of baseball.
The Home Plate Gate will be open to the public at noon. There will be free parking at the Safeco Field garage.
Fans will be seated behind home plate. Even if the roof is closed, fans are asked to dress for chilly weather. Complimentary hot coffee and cocoa will be available on the Main Concourse.
Niehaus died of a heart attack on Nov. 10. He was 75-years-old. He served as the "Voice of the Mariners" since the team's inception in 1977.
