SEATTLE (AP) — After getting thoroughly handled 48-21 by No. 20 Oregon State, Steve Sarkisian would prefer that his Washington Huskies were back on the field this week to try and quickly forget the 27-point route.
Instead, Sarkisian faces a second bye week in less than a month, trying to discover the right motivation for his Huskies now that the hopes of getting to a bowl game after last season's 0-12 meltdown are gone.
Sarkisian says the Huskies looked like a team that wasn't "physically or mentally prepared to play," getting knocked back from the start by the Beavers and never recovering.
His hope for this week's bye is to give some young players a look in practice and give some starters rest as next week's Apple Cup against rival Washington State approaches.
