DENVER, Colorado -- Former Colorado high school basketball standout Josh Perkins has formally committed to the Gonzaga University Basketball program. Perkins has been a most highly sought-after high school player nationally.
The former Regis Jesuit High and Huntington Prep star was listed as a top recruit by ESPN, Rivals, and Scout. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound point guard had been courted by several top basketball programs around the country, including UCLA and Minnesota.
Perkins told Denver’s 9News it felt good to be such a highly touted recruit.
“It’s a dream come true. It just lets everybody know that your hard work is finally paying off,” Perkins said.
Perkins announced Saturday morning he was officially committing to Gonzaga University.
“Coach Few and all the coaching staff really showed me that I’m the guy, that I’m the one that they really want,” said Perkins. “You gotta love who loves you so I’m loving Gonzaga right now.”
“It’s a good day,” added Perkins’ father Randy. "I’m very happy.”
Randy said they might have to road trip from Denver to Spokane come basketball season.
