NEW YORK — Seattle Sounders became only the second team to make the Major League Soccer playoffs in its first year after beating the Kansas City Wizards 3-2 on Saturday.

Nate Jacqua capped a high-scoring second half with a 76th-minute goal for Seattle, which joined the 1998 Chicago Fire as the only teams to advance to the playoffs in their first season. Chicago won the MLS Cup that year.

Zoltan Hercegfalvi and Josh Wolff scored 3 minutes apart to put Kansas City up 2-1 early in the second half.

Seattle's Roger Levesque headed in the equalizer in the 69th minute and Jacqua scored the winner 8 minutes later.

Elsewhere, it was Toronto 1, Real Salt Lake 0; Chicago 0, New England 0; D.C. United 1, Columbus 0; Dallas 2, Colorado 1; and Chivas USA 2, San Jose 2.

Luciano Emilio scored in the first half for United to keep its playoff hopes alive.

Columbus, which saw Emilio Renteria red-carded for a late foul, still remains in the best position to finish the regular season with the best record.

Jim Brennan scored the winner for Toronto against Real Salt Lake, defender Ugo Ihemelu kept Dallas' hopes up with a second-half winner, and New England lost control of its playoff fate and Chicago blew a chance to clinch a playoff berth with their scoreless draw.

Justin Braun scored in the 66th minute to earn Chivas USA the draw and sole possession of first place in the Western Conference.
