Sounders keeper Michael Gspurning will be suspended for the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions League semi-finals with Santos Laguna.

The Sounders goalie picked up a second yellow card in the tournament in the 86th minute of the quarterfinal against Tigres UANL for wasting time. That's an automatic one-game suspension.

"CONCACAF has a rule where [yellow-card accumulation] wipes clean after the quarterfinal stage,” Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid told reporters Tuesday. "In any other tournament, it’s usually after the group stage where it wipes clean. We don’t have any recourse. I thought the yellow was really harsh. They were subbing at the time. Gspurning was waiting for the player to exit the field on the endline and the referee gave him a yellow card for not putting the ball into play."

"Of course I’m upset. It’s an important game and I wanted to play," said Gspurning, who reportedly signed with the Sounders in order to play in the CCL.

Marcus Hahnemann will play goalie for the Sounders in the semi-finals.
