Patrick Ianni’s only goal of the season for the Seattle Sounders has been named the 2012 MLS Goal of the Year.

The goal was scored on June 20th in a 1-1 draw against Sporting Kansas City.

Here is how MLSSoccer.com described it:

“Just as it looked like Mauro Rosales' free kick would sail behind the Sounders attackers, Ianni backtracked just enough to acrobatically volley into the far corner, giving 2012 Goalkeeper of the Year Jimmy Nielsen no chance.”

Ianni beat out finalists Fredy Montero of Seattle, Portland’s Darlington Nagbe and New England’s Lee Nguyen. All the finalists are posted online.
