Voting for the cover of the Madden NFL 15 video game between Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman and Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton ends Friday. At stake: the prestige of being on the cover of one of the best-selling video games ever – and a possible dance with the Madden Curse.
The curse is now legend. Nearly every player who has graced the cover has dealt with injuries or had a decline in production. One of them was former Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander who went from league MVP in 2006 to being out of the league by 2009.

Sherman appears to have no fear of the curse. He’s been active on social media, asking fans to vote for him.
Newton has been having fun with it, too. He posted a video Wednesday challenging Sherman to play a game of Madden against him.
Some fans have been trying to vote for their guy, but others have tried to protect their own player from the curse by voting for his opponent. Even Panthers head coach Ron Rivera has said he’s voted several times for Sherman to keep the curse off Newton.
Sherman has dominated the bracket-style fan vote for the Madden cover. He’s the only one of the 16 players who has earned at least 65 percent of the vote in every round leading up to the final.
