Seattle Reign FC stay unbeaten with 3-1 win over Washington

The Seattle Reign FC defeated the Washington Spirit 3-1 Wednesday to stay undefeated on the young season.

The Reign scored in the third minute on a goal by defender Kendall Fletcher with an assist by midfielder Jess Fishlock.

Seattle increased the lead in the 48th minute when Keelin Winters scored on a Nahomi “Naho” Kawasumi corner kick.

“Naho is class. World class. We’ve known it ever since she walked on the field for the first training session,” said Reign FC head coach Laura Harvey. “We feel very happy and privileged to have her on our side.”

Washington scored its lone goal on a penalty kick by midfielder Diana Matheson in the 73rd minute.

Fishlock scored for the Reign in the 80th minute.

Seattle boasts a lineup that includes National Team members Stephanie Cox, Sydney Leroux, Megan Rapinoe and goalkeeper Hope Solo.

The Reign host the Houston Dash Sunday at 4 p.m. at Memorial Stadium in Seattle. The match will be streamed at YouTube.com/NWSL.
