LOS ANGELES - Avenging a recent 18-point loss to Washington was fresh on the mind of Oregon State when the teams met again in the first round of the Pac-10 Conference tournament on Thursday.
Behind Julie Futch's 17 points, Oregon State rallied to upset Washington, 52-42, six days after the brutal loss.
"I felt like my team showed a lot of resilience," Oregon State coach LaVonda Wagner said. "We decided we weren't going to quit. We weren't going to leave the floor without giving them a fight and we did that."
Seventh-seeded Washington took their last lead when Sarah Morton nailed a 3-pointer snapping a 33-33 tie with 11:31 remaining.
From there, Talisa Rhea responded with consecutive 3-pointers during tenth-seeded Oregon State's 14-2 run that put the Beavers ahead 47-38.
Washington coach Tia Jackson credited Oregon State's zone for disrupting the Huskies' offense. Washington scored six points in the final 11 minutes.
"I'm not quite sure we were attacking their zone the way that we wanted to," Jackson said. "We missed some cheappies around the basket, which was unfortunate."
Sami Whitcomb led Washington (12-17) with 18 points.
Oregon State (11-19) advances to play second-seeded UCLA in a quarterfinal game on Friday.
Haiden Palmer added 14 points for the Beavers, who entered the game having lost 17 of their last 18.
It looked like the Beavers were headed for their 20th loss of the season after falling way behind early, but they eventually calmed their nerves.
After committing 13 turnovers in the first half, Oregon State had just six in the second half.
"It was fresh in our memory what happened last week in Seattle so we were trying way too hard and we were tight," Wagner said. "When we just relaxed and played, and executed our game plan, I thought we did a good job of that."
The Beavers shot 42.9 percent from the field and had 12 steals.
Oregon State held a large advantage at the free-throw line, converting 11 of 22 foul shots compared to 2 of 5 for Washington.
The two teams traded large runs in the first half with Washington racing out to an early lead and Oregon State storming right back.
Whitcomb scored 11 of the team's first 22 points. Her driving layup put the Huskies ahead 22-4 with 8:37 left in the first.
But after Whitcomb's basket, Oregon State responded with an 18-2 run to close the half and trail 24-22 at the break. Futch scored seven of her points during that stretch including a 3-pointer.
Oregon State committed nine turnovers in the first 10 minutes to trail 15-2.
