Two people with ties to the Puget Sound area are taking part in the grueling Iditarod dog sled race in Alaska.
Jan Steves of Edmonds has been mushing since 2008. The 56-year-old was a rookie last year. She spent three years splitting time between her home and the English Kennel in Willow, Alaska.
“With sled dogs in my life, mushing has become my passion,” said Steves on her website.
Robert Bundtzen earned his M.D. from the University of Washington. He has operated a consultative infectious disease practice in Anchorage. This is the 14th Iditarod for the 61-year-old. His previous best finish was 27th in 1997.
