SEATTLE – Could Mike Holmgren return to the Seattle Seahawks – as Jim Mora's boss?
NFL insider John Clayton tells 710 ESPN that Holmgren could be among the leading candidates for the Seahawks' General Manager position, if it becomes open.
Holmgren coached the Seahawks for 10 seasons before retiring and handing the reigns to Mora this year. Holmgren is the franchise's all-time winningest coach.
When Holmgren first came to Seattle in 1999, he played a dual role of coach and GM. He was stripped of the GM duties and focused on being head coach following a combined 31-33 record in his first four seasons. After that, he took the Seahawks to five straight playoff appearances, including four division titles and Super Bowl XL.
Reports indicate that the Cleveland Browns plan to approach Holmgren for a front-office position.
"I can't see Holmgren going to Cleveland, particularly if (Head Coach Eric) Mangini's there," said Clayton.
Clayton says other teams that may be looking at Holmgren are the Buffalo Bills and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
