The games don’t count yet, but Saturday marks the eagerly anticipated beginning of 2012 Seattle Seahawks football season.
The pre-season calendar opens with the Tennessee Titans, which feature former Seahawk Matt Hasselbeck and University of Washington quarterback Jake Locker.
For fans of the Seahawks, the pre-season produces many unanswered questions regarding the roster.
“It’s Matt (Flynn’s) job to lose,” proclaimed Seahawks fan Bob Hill, referring to the quarterback battle between Flynn, Randall Wilson and Tarvaris Jackson.
A new wrinkle is at wide receiver, with the recent addition of Terrell Owens.
“I guess we’re just going to have to let the ‘Sharpie thing’ pass,” said Scott Sutton, who recalls when Owens as a member of the San Francisco 49ers pulled a pen out of his sock after scoring a touchdown and signed his football.
Beyond the field, fans will instantly notice one major change. Because of NFL rules, all gates leading into Century Link Field have metal detectors. The team encouraged spectators to show up earlier than normal because of the potential of longer lines.
Fans said Saturday it’s worth the wait.
“We need to prove to the rest of the league the Seahawks are a top-notch team,” Sutton commented, “Instead of being cheated out of a Super Bowl.”
