BOISE, Idaho  -- Boise State University head football coach Chris Petersen says it was "just a matter of time" before his Broncos suffered a lopsided defeat like Saturday's 38-6 drubbing at the hands of the University of Washington, especially since he nearly always schedules a tough opponent to start the season.

At a post-loss press conference Monday, Petersen praised the Broncos for focusing at practice earlier that morning.

The No. 19-ranked Broncos' loss to the Huskies lowers his career record to 84-9.

The game was reminiscent of the 48-13 loss at Georgia's Sanford Stadium back in 2005, before Petersen became head coach.

BSU plays the University of Tennessee at Martin Saturday in Boise, its home opener.

KTVB-TV reported Petersen says he's seen enough of Tennessee Martin to know they can beat the Broncos.
