NEW YORK -- Alex Rodriguez has dropped his challenge to his season long suspension and will sit out the 2014 Major League season.

The Yankees third baseman filed a lawsuit against Major League Baseball and the players union after an arbitrator reduced his 211-game suspension related to performance-enhancing drugs, to a season-long ban.

Rodriguez continued to proclaim his innocence and slammed the process.

But 27 days after arbitrator's decision, the three-time AL MVP withdrew the lawsuit and a previous action filed in October claiming MLB and Selig were engaged in a "witch hunt" against him. Rodriguez became the 14th and final player to accept a suspension following baseball's investigation of the Biogenesis of America anti-aging clinic.
