SPOKANE, Wash. - After a wet and wild first day of Hoopfest 2013, Sunday began with the promise of more sunshine and more hoops.

Saturday’s thunderstorms and showers led tournament officials to postpone the popular slam dunk competition.  The competition was rescheduled to Sunday at 10:30a.m.

The rain on day one of the 3-on-3 basketball fest did help keep athletes cool, but players loaded up on water and Gatorade from vendors to fight the hot, muggy conditions.

“It is a scorcher and you gotta prepare for the weather,” said one athlete.  “What we’re doing is preparing so we don’t have a bad game.”

Hoopfesters may end up even thirstier on day two.  Forecasters called for a hot, sunny Sunday with highs in the low to mid 90s.

Some of the highlights for Hoopfest Sunday included the championship round of Hoopfest scheduled for 3p.m. and the half-court shooting challenge the Toyota Shootout.  The shootout finals were set for 3:30p.m.

Hoopfest organizers said more than 7,000 teams showed up to the 24th edition of the tournament, making for 28,000 players on over 450 courts.  The annual basketball tournament spanned 42 city blocks in downtown Spokane.
