NEW YORK (AP) — Some studies suggest that head injuries can set up professional football players for later mental problems. Now congressmen and experts want to know more about injuries to high school players.
NFL concusssions were the focus of a hearing in Washington this week. Some experts estimate as many as 1 in 10 high school football players get a concussion every year, but there is no long-term research tracking them.
Studies of retired professional players have raised concerns that their head injuries can later lead to Alzheimer's disease and other memory problems.
