SEATTLE (AP) — Unlike other stops on his final tour around the majors, Seattle has a special place for New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter.

It was 19 years ago that Jeter made his major league debut for the Yankees in the old Kingdome. He went 0-for-5 as a 20-year-old on May 29, 1995 in Seattle's 8-7 victory over the Yankees. The next day, Jeter picked up two hits off Seattle starter Tim Belcher.

Seattle planned a pregame ceremony to honor Jeter on Tuesday night before the start of a three-game series. Jeter is one of 12 active players to have played in the Kingdome and Safeco Field in his career. He enters his final trip to the Pacific Northwest a career .299 hitter in Seattle in 80 regular-season games.
