SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona's Patrick Corbin gave up three runs and six hits in four innings in the Diamondbacks' 3-3 tie with a Seattle Mariners split squad last night. Seattle's James Paxton threw three scoreless innings, running his streak to seven to open the spring, before allowing a run in his fourth and final inning. The 25-year-old Mariners right-hander gave up a run and five hits, striking out two and walking one.
PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) — Robinson Cano returned from a four-game absence after a root canal procedure and went 3 for 3 as a split squad of Seattle Mariners lost to the Kansas City Royals 8-2 yesterday. Cano missed four games following the dental work. He singled twice off James Shields, already picked to start on opening day. The Royals ace later picked off Cano at third base.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Four-time Iditarod Trail Sled Dog champion Jeff King and his closest competitor have completed mandatory eight-hour layovers and begun the final 77-mile run to Nome. King departed White Mountain at 4:02 p.m. yesterday. He dropped one dog and left with 11. He had reached the village at 7:02 a.m., 57 minutes ahead of Aliy Zirkle (AL'-ee ZUR'kahl).
