GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Mike Smith stopped 29 shots for his first shutout of the season, Antoine Vermette had a power-play goal in the first period, and the Phoenix Coyotes beat the Vancouver Canucks 1-0 last night. In a game full of penalties and killed power plays, the Coyotes got stellar goaltending and just enough offense while the Canucks continued to struggle on the offense.

MALIBU, Calif. (AP) — Sam Dower was perfect from the field and scored 18 points as Gonzaga bounced back from having its 22-game conference win streak snapped by routing Pepperdine in a first-place showdown, 70-53 last night. Dower converted all seven of his field goal attempts and was 4 of 5 from the line with eight rebounds to lead the Bulldogs (15-3, 5-1 West Coast). Kevin Pangos finished with 14 points for Gonzaga.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Andre Winston scored only six points but he had Portland State's last four on free throws as the Vikings ended a 20-game road losing streak with a 68-64 overtime victory over Sacramento State last night. Dylan Garrity's basket got the Hornets (5-9, 1-4 Big Sky) within three with 10 seconds left before Winston was fouled with 4 seconds remaining.

SEATTLE (AP) — Issiah Grayson scored 15 points, including a pair of late free throws, to lead Cal State-Bakersfield over Seattle 61-57 yesterday. Brandon Barnes had 13, including two consecutive second half 3-pointers, and Stefon Johnson chipped in with 11 points and seven boards for Bakersfield (8-9, 1-2 Western Athletic Conference).
