TORONTO (AP) — Felix Hernandez pitched eight shutout innings to win his third straight start, Kyle Seager and Jason Bay homered and the Seattle Mariners blanked the Toronto Blue Jays 4-0 last night. Seager had three hits as the Mariners won for the sixth time in eight games. Hernandez (4-2) allowed five hits, walked none and struck out seven, improving to 3-0 with a 0.60 ERA in his past four starts. He's 95-24 in his career when he receives two or more runs of support.

The American League West dominated the AL East on Friday night, not allowing a run in the four divisional matchups. It's only the third time since divisional play began in 1969 that one division has blanked another division four times in one night according to STATS. The NL West did it to the NL East on May 12, 1981 and the AL East did it to the AL West on June 7, 1969.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Portland Timbers say that veteran defender Mikael Silvestre is out for six to nine months because of a left knee injury. Silvestre tore his anterior cruciate ligament during a scoreless draw against the New England Revolution on Thursday night and was taken from the field by stretcher. In response, the Timbers signed defender Pa Modou Kah for the rest of the season

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Portland Timbers are already benefiting from their new coach and new possession-oriented style. The team is riding a franchise-best seven-match unbeaten streak, pulling the surprising Timbers even with the Los Angeles Galaxy for second place in Major League Soccer's Western Conference. Portland is 3-1-5 to start this season for 14 points, the team's latest point coming Thursday night in a scoreless draw with the New England Revolution.
