MARINERS-ASTROS

Gonzalez helps Astros to 3-2 win over Mariners

HOUSTON (AP) — Marwin Gonzalez homered, Bud Norris rebounded from a tough start last time out and the Houston Astros snapped a three-game losing skid with a 3-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night.

The game was tied at 1 when Gonzalez launched his homer about 10 rows into the stands in right field to start Houston's third. Gonzalez, who bats ninth, hit just four home runs in 80 games last season and has three in 16 this year.

Houston got an insurance run when Hisashi Iwakuma (2-1) hit Justin Maxwell with a pitch with the bases loaded later in that inning.

Norris (3-2) allowed a season-high eight hits in five innings and Jose Veras pitched a perfect ninth for his second save in three opportunities.

MARINERS-GUTIERREZ

Gutierrez put on DL with hamstring injury

HOUSTON (AP) — The Seattle Mariners have placed outfielder Franklin Gutierrez on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring.

Gutierrez was injured on Monday night trying to make a diving catch in the fourth inning against the Astros. He has struggled with injuries in his career, and this is the fifth time he's been on the disabled list since the beginning of the 2011 season.

Gutierrez is hitting .259 with four homers and 10 RBIs in 16 games this season.

Outfielder Carlos Peguero was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma to take his spot on the roster.

Peguero has hit .246 with two home runs and 14 RBIs in 17 games for Tacoma this season.

BIG SKY WOMEN

Montana State's Crawford wins Big Sky golf title

(Stations: Note Portland State and Eastern Washington interest.)

CHANDLER, Ariz. (AP) — Montana State's Paige Crawford ran away with the Big Sky Conference individual women's golf title Tuesday, and Northern Arizona won its record seventh team championship.

Crawford, a junior from Colorado Springs, Colo., matched the tournament record with her closing 5-under 67 — also a career best — at Ocotillo (oh-kuh-TEE'-yoh) Golf Resort. She finished at 8-under 208 to break the conference record, and won by seven strokes to tie the tournament mark for margin of victory.

Northern Arizona's Kaitlen Parsons and Portland State's Britney Yada tied for second. Parsons shot 71, and Yada had a 72.

Northern Arizona had a 2-over 290 total — with the best four scores from the five team members counting — to finish at 18-over 882. Northern Arizona advanced to the NCAA West Regional on May 10-12 at Stanford.

Portland State was second at 22 over, followed by Southern Utah and Northern Colorado at 37 over, Sacramento State at 40 over, Eastern Washington at 47 over, Weber State at 51 over, Montana at 55 over, Montana State at 58 over, North Dakota at 131 over and Idaho State at 143 over.
