HOUSTON (AP) — Felix Hernandez pitched six scoreless innings for his 100th career win and Seattle homered three times to back him up in a 7-1 victory over the Houston Astros last night. Hernandez reached the milestone in his fourth try to join Jamie Moyer and Randy Johnson as the only pitchers to reach 100 wins with Seattle. Hernandez allowed five hits and struck out nine.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Kam Chancellor and the Seattle Seahawks have agreed on a contract extension that will keep the young safety with the only team he's played for through the 2017 season. Chancellor's agent, Alvin Keels, announced the deal on his Twitter account yesterday. Keels said it was a four-year extension. Chancellor recorded a career-high 92 tackles last season.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Since Seattle doesn't own a first-round pick thanks to a trade with Minnesota, Seahawks general manager John Schneider joked his staff would spend the first night of the draft watching YouTube highlights of Percy Harvin. The Seahawks' first selection is set for the second round on Friday night, the 56th overall pick. It's the first of 10 picks Seattle owns.
ELLENSBURG, Wash. (AP) — Dennis Francois is leaving Drake University to become the athletic director at Central Washington. The school announced Francois' hiring yesterday. He's been the associate athletic director for external affairs at Drake since 2008. He'll start his new position June 17 at Central Washington. Francois will succeed Jack Bishop, who is retiring.
