PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Ryan Johnson scored two goals and the Portland Timbers beat the Houston Dynamo 2-0 last night for their first win of the season. Johnson scored goals in the 55th and 73rd minutes as the Timbers came alive in the second half to beat the Dynamo for the first time in their three-year history. Portland had lost the previous three matches.
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Corey Hertzog scored his first MLS goal, rallying the Vancouver Whitecaps to a 1-1 tie against the San Jose Earthquakes last night. Hertzog took advantage of a temporary two-man advantage and slotted home a shot from 9 yards in the 62nd minute. Chris Wondolowski tallied in the 18th minute for San Jose.

Henrik Sedin (seh-DEEN') scored an empty-net goal and earned career NHL assists No. 600 and 601, Daniel Sedin added three assists, and Alex Burrows scored and had an assist to pace Vancouver, which has won eight of 10.
