MARINERS-WHITE-SOX

Morales leads Mariners past White Sox 8-7 in 10

CHICAGO (AP) — Kendrys Morales hit a tiebreaking double in the 10th inning and Jesus Montero tacked on a run-scoring single, leading the Seattle Mariners to an 8-7 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Friday night.

Franklin Gutierrez sparked the winning rally when he led off with an infield single. He advanced on Michael Saunders' sacrifice and came home when Morales drove the next pitch from Nate Jones (0-1) down the first-base line.

Montero then singled in pinch-runner Robert Andino as Seattle earned its fourth win in its last 20 games in Chicago dating to the 2008 season. The Mariners have only 11 wins in their last 44 games against the White Sox overall.

ROCKETS-TRAIL BLAZERS

Rockets defeat Blazers 116-98

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — James Harden had 33 points and the short-handed Houston Rockets edged closer to clinching a playoff spot with a 116-98 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night.

Jeremy Lin added 22 points to help the Rockets to their fourth straight victory. Houston (43-33) remained in seventh place in the Western Conference — three games in front of the Los Angeles Lakers — for their first playoff appearance since 2008-09.

LaMarcus Aldridge returned from an ankle injury with 32 points and 13 rebounds for the Blazers (33-43), who matched their season-worst slide with a seventh straight loss.

The Rockets were without forward Chandler Parsons because of a right calf injury he sustained late in Houston's 112-102 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night.

TRAIL BLAZERS-LILLARD

Blazers G Lillard is NBA's Rookie of the Month

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard has won the league's Western Conference Rookie of the Month honors for the fifth straight month.

He is the only Blazer to win the honor five times, and he's the first NBA player to win it the first five months of the season since Blake Griffin in 2010-11.

The 6-foot-3 point guard averaged 21.3 points, 6.8 assists and 2.9 rebounds in March. He made 42 3-pointers.

Lillard has 170 3-pointers this season, a new rookie record.

FINAL FOUR-ALL STAR GAME

East beats West 87-81 in college all-star game

ATLANTA (AP) — James Ennis of Long Beach State scored 13 points, and Kansas State's Rodney McGruder hit four free throws in the closing seconds to give the East team an 87-81 victory over the West in the college all-star game at the Final Four.

The East team, coached by Tennessee's Cuonzo Martin, built a 15-point lead in the second half before squandering nearly all of it. But the West, coached by Iowa State's Fred Hoiberg, couldn't finish the comeback, even though they started fouling down the stretch to extend the game.

McGruder finished with 11 points for the East team, while Will Clyburn of Iowa State scored 17 points and Mike Muscala of Bucknell finished with 15 points for the West.

E.J. Singler of Oregon and Brandon Davies of BYU finished with 12 each for the East team.
