NEW YORK (AP) — The Portland Trail Blazers overcame Carmelo Anthony's season high-tying 45 points and spoiled Amare Stoudemire's season debut, beating the New York Knicks 105-100 last night. Nicolas Batum (bah-TOOM') scored 26 points, Damian Lillard had 21 points, six assists and five rebounds, and LaMarcus Aldridge had 19 points and 14 rebounds for Portland.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Since he arrived in Arizona for the Fiesta Bowl, Oregon coach Chip Kelly has been asked about coaching in the NFL every day. The questions only figure to pick up after seven NFL coaches were fired on Monday. As he has in the past, Kelly has deflected the speculation, saying his focus is on preparing the Ducks for their next game. The fifth-ranked Ducks play No. 7 Kansas State in the Fiesta Bowl tomorrow night at University of Phoenix Stadium.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — While they are one of the hottest teams going into the postseason, there's a lot of past playoff futility for the Seattle Seahawks to overcome — nearly three decades worth. Seemingly unbeatable at home, the road — especially in the postseason — has been a different tale for the Seahawks. It's been 29 years since Seattle last won a playoff game on the road. They've lost eight straight road playoff games since winning at Miami on Dec. 31, 1983, when only nine players on their current 53-man roster were even born. On Sunday, 11-5 Seattle takes on another hot team, the 10-6 Washington Redskins.
