BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Celtics cruised to a comfortable win without Rajon Rondo, topping the Portland Trail Blazers 96-78 last night. Rondo served the first game of his two-game suspension for his role in a scuffle Wednesday night against the Brooklyn Nets. The Trail Blazers lost their fourth straight game and had just three scorers in double figures — LaMarcus Aldridge with 23 points and J.J. Hickson and Meyers Leonard with 11 each.
SEATTLE (AP) — Investor Chris Hansen has released preliminary design options for the exterior of a proposed NBA arena in Seattle. Three different designs for the exterior were revealed yesterday, including a preferred option consisting of a rectangular building with the look of a cruise-ship on the top and a large public plaza. The city's design review board is expected to go over the preliminary plans on Dec. 11.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — No. 10 Kansas held off repeated Oregon State rallies to beat the Beavers 84-78 last night. The Jayhawks built an early 14-point lead only to see Oregon State tie the score at 37-all. Then, after Kansas pulled away for a 63-50 advantage early in the second half, Ahmad Starks led a 9-1 run to cut the deficit to 64-61. Roberto Nelson had 17 points for Oregon State while Eric Moreland had five points and 16 rebounds.
CHENEY, Wash. (AP) — Venky Jois scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Eastern Washington past Cal State Fullerton 79-75 last night. Jois was 10 of 14 from the field. Justin Crosgile also posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. He was 4 of 8 from 3-point range. Thomas Reuter scored 16 points, and Parker Kelly added 12 for the Eagles.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Run-stuffing defensive end Red Bryant and linebacker Leroy Hill will both be game-time decisions for the Seattle Seahawks entering tomorrow's big NFC matchup at Chicago. Coach Pete Carroll says Bryant was held out of practice for a third straight day with a foot injury. Hill went through a workout to test his sore ankle, but how the injury responds will determine if he plays against the Bears.
