SEATTLE (AP) — In his last three games, the first-half shooting efforts by Washington's Terrence Ross were forgettable. And in the second half, taking nearly the same shots, Ross has been unstoppable. Streaky doesn't even begin to describe the last three games for Washington's sophomore swingman with NBA potential. Against Washington State, California and Stanford, Ross scored a combined eight points in the first half and shot 13.6 percent. In the final 20 minutes of those three games, he scored a combined 55 points, including 26 against the Cougars, and shot nearly 60 percent.
WINTHROP, Wash. (AP) — Biathlon, which combines cross country skiing and marksmanship, is a minor sport in America — except in Washington's Methow (MET'-how) Valley. The Methow Valley Biathlon Team has 30 active members and boasts the largest junior biathlon program in the West. Coach Betsey Devin-Smith of Winthrop started the program in 2002, partly to keep her son interested in cross country skiing. The Wenatchee World reports (http://is.gd/rdzvXk) the now 19-year-old Casey Smith is in Europe, training with the U.S. National Team for his third Junior World Championship competition.
