LONGMIRE, Wash. - Rain and high winds lashed Washington state Wednesday, causing widespread avalanches, mudslides, flooding and road closures from rapid snowmelt.
Officials at Mount Rainier National Park will close the park's western Nisqually entrance Wednesday evening as a precautionary measure against flooding.
No damage has occurred in the area, but park officials say the Nisqually River and Tahoma and Kautz creeks continue to rise.
The same area experienced heavy flood damage in 2006.
