Proposed permanent homeless camp
SEATTLE - Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn says the site of a September fire in the city's SoDo neighborhood is the best place for a permanent homeless camp.
McGinn says the wreckage from the old Sunny Jim peanut butter factory will be cleared away and the property graded.
The Sunny Jim factory, located on Airport Way South, was the scene of a spectacular four-alarm fire on September 20th.
The city would seek a nonprofit organization to manage the camp. After a public hearing, the property could be ready next month for the camp known as Nicklesville.
