SEATTLE—A jury returned a record verdict Monday night in a shooting that injured five people in Kent in 2007.

According to the plaintiff’s attorney, a jury awarded more than $46.4 million to three of the victims. The majority of that money will go to 31 year old Steve Tolenoa.

Tolenoa is paralyzed from the waist down and has no use of his hands. He was sitting at a table at about 2:00am when 23 year old Frank Lee Evans began shooting a group of people he said were sitting “in his booth.”
Evans was sentenced to more than 63 years for injuring 5 people.
Three of the victims filed suit because they believed the Denny's restaurant did not take steps to keep customers and staff safe.
The $46.4 million verdict is a state record for a personal injury case.
