WOODINVILLE, Wash. - When Puget Sound Energy came to Jakub Olesky's home, they tested the Woodinville home for energy efficiency - from the front door to the ducts in the crawl space.
"They were leaking and I could feel a draft in our living room," said Jakub
What Jakub and his wife Summer wanted from the utility was a home-print report. For $95 it tells homeowners where a house is letting cold air in and leaking cash.
The Oleskys have a ton of projects they want to get started before winter. Without that report, they don't have a full blue print.
It's cold and rainy and I'm getting all of these quotes," Jakub said. "Trying to get people to come out and I don't have anything to tell them because I don't have the report and they are trying to guess."
The Oleskys' home was tested on March 3. They expected a full report in four weeks, but April came and went with no report in sight.
Summer called PSE several times. In July, the company sent them the $95 bill for the report they still didn't have.
The Oleskys got nothing but hot air until they called me in October.
I got in touch with Andy Wappler from PSE, and he rushed right out to the Oleskys.
"Families like Summer's are exactly who we want to help because they are excited about energy efficiency," said Wappler. "So honestly, that's really our prime customer and to have them be disappointed that disappoints us too."
PSE said another company was preparing the detailed reports and blamed computer errors. To make it up to the Oleskys, Puget Sound Energy is moving some of the family's projects up immediately. Top of the list: sealing the air ducts free of charge so they can save money right away.
PSE says the 1200 customers who ordered similar reports can expect to get them starting next week. They'll be sent by mail or e-mail, whichever one the customer prefers. Also the free duct sealing offer made to the Oleskys is also on the table for anyone else who had the delay.
