PORTLAND – A driver was seriously injured after rolling his Mercedes on Interstate 205 Saturday, police said.
At 7:37 p.m., 19-year-old Volodymyr Kokhanevych was ejected after rolling his car on the I-205 on-ramp from Southeast Woodstock Boulevard, said Sgt. Pete Simpson with Portland police.
Kokhanevych was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, Simpson said. Two passengers in the car reportedly fled the scene.
After searching the area, police eventually found one of the passengers, 16-year-old Roman Kokhanevych, at his home. A third person was identified but not located, Simpson said.
Investigators learned Kokhanevych was driving his 1994 Mercedes 420 in the southbound middle lane of I-205 when he suddenly swerved to the right and drove off the right shoulder of the freeway. The car crashed down the embankment and landed upright facing the wrong direction on the southbound on-ramp.
Investigators said alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.
