SPOKANE, Wash.--Jurors found a Spokane man not guilty of a deadly New Year’s Eve shooting in Hillyard.

The jury acquitted Shannon Johnson, 33, of murder on Tuesday.  Jurors deemed that the shooting happened in self-defense.

The jury began deliberating on Thursday for the trial which started August 14.
Johnson was charged with murder for gunning down two people in a Hillyard grocery store on New Year’s Eve 2012. One of the victims died.

Police said Johnson walked into the store near Euclid and Thor on New Year’s Eve. Witnesses reported hearing an argument over a woman, money and drugs, according to court documents. Police said Johnson shot the other two and then ran away.

The surviving victim testified during the trial. He was shot twice and claimed that a fight over a gun led to the shooting.
