SPOKANE, Wash. -- A driver wanted for questioning following the death of a man found lying in a Spokane front yard has come forward.

The driver’s Pontiac was seen in the area near Weipert and Eddy Monday night, hours before paper carriers found 48-year-old Michael E. Dressel during their morning route.

The sheriff’s office says the driver is cooperating with their investigation and it does not appear the car was involved in any type of crash.

A woman tells KREM 2 Dressel’s body was found in her yard. She says one of the carriers rang her bell to let her know, and she then called police. Authorities say Dressel was walking around the neighborhood and witnesses told them he appeared to be intoxicated before his death. Police are not yet sure a vehicle struck the man, but they are considering it as a possibility.

Tuesday morning’s snow impeded the deputies' investigation, in terms of protecting evidence. They used blankets to cover the scene, and they continue to investigate.

Parents and staff of the nearby Evergreen Elementary School were concerned about students’ safety after the discovery. Administrators walked through every room before classes began. The Mead School District also modified the morning bus route, so students didn’t have to walk by the crime tape.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
