In a unique "social music experiment," singer Chris Ballew of the Presidents of the United States of America had the public to help him write a song.

People were asked to finish the sentence, "When I was little..." in 25 words or less on Facebook. Then those suggestions were used to write the song.

Ballew perform it at the beginning of the IN-NW Social Media Conference and asked attendees to upload videos of them singing along. Then, he combined the video footage into a complete music video.

The final step of the experiment was getting attendees to share the video out with their social networks to see how far it will travel.

The social music experiment is a collaboration between the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Chris Ballew as part of IN-NW.

Ballew published the song through his Casper Babypants project, through which he writes, produces, and publishes children's music.

Check out the lyrics below:

When I was Little

Grandpa bought me a piano and I played Ode to Joy
I let the kitten ride around in my little truck toy
I rode down the stairs in a laundry basket
Turn your back on the ocean and it can be tragic
And I learned the secrets of life when I was little

My imaginary friend named punky lived in a jar
We walked on logs on the beach and looked up at the stars
We rode our bikes all over the town
And snuck into the zoo when the sun went down
And I learned the secrets of life when I was little

I stuck a wheel from a toy car up my nose
We played in the snow until we could't feel our frozen toes
I rode on my daddy's knee when he drove the tractor
The ferry horn scared me as I was eating clam chowder
And I learned the secrets of life when I was little

I banged on pots and pans just to be loud
I longed to live outside with my dog in the dog house
I heard my mom calling in the sunset gloom
We raced for space and men walked on the moon
And I learned the secrets of life when I was little
